Look up any US nonprofit and read its financial health in plain English, where every figure links straight to the exact IRS Form 990 line it came from. No uncited claims. Negatives shown honestly.
Search the whole IRS universe or browse the featured index. Each org is a filed Form 990, the tax return every US charity must make public.
Seven financial-health signals in one sentence each: surplus or deficit, cash cushion, how it is funded, where the money goes, the trend.
Click any ⌖ pin to open the exact line on the real IRS filing. Nothing here is taken on faith.
The whole point is that you never have to trust it. Every claim carries a pin to the primary source. Here is exactly how it is built.
Data comes straight from the ProPublica Nonprofit Explorer API, which mirrors IRS Form 990 e-file line items. Featured orgs are precomputed; any other org is fetched live through a caching proxy on this domain.
Every metric is computed only from 990 lines the filing actually reports. The data does not expose the Part IX program-vs-overhead split, so this tool does not fake an "overhead ratio." A citation it can't verify is the one thing it refuses to print.
The plain-language report is templated, not free-generated, so the number and its citation are guaranteed to match and can never drift apart. Only the verified figures change. That guarantee is the whole product.
Each org is compared to the median of its mission group. Grouping is by mission area, disclosed here, because the IRS NTEE code is blank for many large orgs.
Flags are heuristics, not verdicts. A deficit or thin reserve gets flagged, not spun. 990s lag one to two years and are self-reported. In-kind gifts can inflate revenue. Every metric says what it can and cannot tell you.
The 45 featured orgs are precomputed and instant. Live lookups hit a thin proxy that caches every response for a day, so repeat views are instant and nothing runs when no one is looking.
